all aboard!

Discovering Meaning in the Rush of the Commute.
While commuting to work on the subway system, I began photographing fellow commuters with my cell phone. The images I photographed depicted contemporary people surrounded with all “their stuff" including iPhones, books and designer bags, participating in the humble act of commuting.
Slowly I began to see that these images contained a very important message.
I was drawn to the sensuality of the dress, the confident pose, and the drama of the black gloves. There’s a provocative power in this image
I first photographed a crowded subway car without noticing anything unusual. Only later, while studying the image more closely, did I see the quiet, remarkable moment I had captured by accident: a Hasidic youth standing just a few feet from a Muslim couple sharing a gentle, affectionate gesture. The scene’s unexpected harmony compelled me to create this painting, which I titled Peace — a reflection of the hope I carry with me.
