Discovering Meaning in the Rush of the Commute.
While commuting to work on the subway system, I began photographing fellow commuters with my cell phone. The images I photographed depicted contemporary people surrounded with all “their stuff" including iPhones, books and designer bags, participating in the humble act of commuting.
Slowly I began to see that these images contained a very important message.

After a long day working in NYC, I boarded a packed subway home. By the next stop I managed to find a seat, and this was the scene directly in front of me — a moment that felt unmistakably “only in New York.”
I knew Magical Mystery Tour was the right title for the painting. The Beatles have long been a shared touchstone in my family, shaping the spirit and playfulness that informed this work.
