Discovering Meaning in the Rush of the Commute.
While commuting to work on the subway system, I began photographing fellow commuters with my cell phone. The images I photographed depicted contemporary people surrounded with all “their stuff" including iPhones, books and designer bags, participating in the humble act of commuting.
Slowly I began to see that these images contained a very important message.

I was drawn to each individual portrait within this photograph. To introduce a touch of humor, I imagined the sleeping man’s cell phone drifting upward as he rested. I titled the painting Red, White & Blue for the way the image reflects the rich variety of cultures that coexist within our country.
